Richfield is a rare LL3
classification meteorite. This stone was found in Richfield, Morton County,
Kansas USA in 1983, but was not identified as a meteorite until 1995. As can be
seen in this close-up photograph, LL3 meteorites contain very clear and
distinct chondrules, an indication that the specimen represents some the most
pristine, original material in the solar system.
A more detailed discussion of
Richfield and the significance of chondrules can be found in
Richfield, A New Stone Meteorite from
the February, 1996 issue of METEORITE! Magazine.
