Collection Specimen

Arlington, Minnesota, USA,

{short description of image}
 Arlngton, Minnesota, Iron, IIE anom, medium octahedrite.

8.95 kg, found on a farm in Arlington, Sibley County, Minnesota in 1894. Everything about this iron meteorite is anomalous - shape, structure, and chemistry.
Universities have been repositories for meteorites since the late 1700's. Specimens were cut, drilled, chemically dissolved, and "peeled" (fusion crust was of little interest) for study. To keep track of them the names were often acid-etched onto the surface as seen above.

Collection specimen, presented for your interest, not for sale.
